The rock and metal scene has been waiting for years for a new idea, for something truly unique, for cultural inspiration - and here are The Hu. The four-piece band combines traditional Mongolian instruments with modern hard rock to create their own style of music, which they call "Hunnu Rock" - "Hu" is Mongolian for "human". The quartet, which includes members Gala (horse-headed violin, lead vocals), Jaya (Jewish harp, tsuur flute, lead vocals), Temka (Mongolian lute) and Enkush (lead vocals, horse-headed violin), and regular producer Dashka, is supported on stage by four live musicians who play classic rock instruments. A charismatic feature of Hunnu Rock is the throaty vocals, which The Hu use in their songs to thematize Mongolian battle cries, poetry, and even ancient inscriptions. "In Hunnu Rock, East meets West, old meets new and tradition meets modernity," Gala defines his band's main starting point. "We try to combine the unique sound of Mongolian music with rock in a spiritual way to reach people's souls," Temka explains.
