Stone Temple Pilots celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of "Tiny Music... Songs From The Vatican Gift Shop" with the Super Deluxe edition. The 3 CD/1 LP set includes newly remastered versions of the original studio album on CD and vinyl, as well as previously unreleased versions of earlier versions, instrumentals and alternate takes, and a complete concert recording from 1997. The Deluxe Edition will also be released as a 2-CD version and the remaster of the original album will also be released as a 1-CD version. Stone Temple Pilots' third album was critically acclaimed for its versatility and clearly showed that the band was no fad. Their grunge roots remained intact, although Pilots were often considered too "commercial" for grunge. Guitarist Dean DeLeo is a true master of hooks; his palette of chords and melodies is never exhausted. Vocalist Scott Weiland comes across as a real showman in his lyrics. The strategy of enriching their music with pop influences was meant to allow Stone Temple Pilots to distinguish themselves from the mass of long-haired bands in lumberjack shirts that dominated radio airplay in the 1990s. Critics praised the album for its wide sonic spectrum - proving that the Pilots were no fad, and that their grunge roots (though they were criticized for sounding too "commercial" by the standards of true grunge) were still firmly in place. Guitarist Dean DeLeo is a true master of hooks and his palette of chords and melodies seems endless. Vocalist Scott Weiland stands out as a true showman with his otherworldly lyrics. It's this strategy, which lightly accentuates pop influences, that makes STP stand out from the flannel-haired bands that burst onto the airwaves in the 90s.
