"We're writing such great music at the moment that I'm almost tempted to go on 50 shows around the world and then get right back to making another record," says Bennington. We spent months destroying and rebuilding our band. The resulting material filled the studio's hard drives with all sorts of abstract sounds. Amorphous echoes, cacophonous samples, and hand staccato merged into a fleeting melody. We didn't know if any of these unorthodox ideas could be incorporated into a traditional album, but we knew we didn't want our next album to be predictable. When we got together in the studio to record our first album, all six of us expressed our determination to put ourselves in an uncertain position and create something really bold.
