The album Buena Vista Social Club, released in 1997, captures the spirit of traditional Cuban music. The album was recorded in Havana and featured contributions from some of the country's best-known musicians, including Ibrahim Ferrer, Rubén González and Omar Portuondo. The album was produced by Ry Cooder, who has been fascinated by Cuban music for many years. Buena Vista Social Club was a critical and commercial success and helped introduce traditional Cuban music to a wider audience. The album is cited as a major influence in the revival of interest in traditional Cuban music in the late 1990s and early 21st century.
