Stéphane Labeyrie

French Tuba Soloist and Chamber Musician

French tubist. Born: 1975 Stéphane Labeyrie studied tuba with Marc Ursule at the CNR de Toulouse where he won the gold medal in 1991. That same year, he entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon in the class of Mel Culbertson. He graduated with honors. In 1992, he won the Special Prize for Musicality at the Markneukirchen International Competition. Stéphane is a laureate of several international competitions: First Prize unanimously at the International Tuba Competition in Sydney, Australia in 1995; First Prize at the Markneukirchen International Competition in 1996; First Prize at the International Competition of Riva Del Garda, Italy in 1997; and in 2008, Second Prize at the International Porcia Competition. After playing at the Opéra National De Lyon with Kent Nagano and spending 2 years at the Orchestre National Du Capitole De Toulouse under the direction of Michel Plasson, he has held the position of Principal Tuba at the Orchestre De Paris for several years.
