Rosalind Elias

Rosalind Elias

American Mezzo-Soprano Opera Singer

Rosalind Elias (March 13, 1930 – May 3, 2020) was an American mezzo-soprano who had a lengthy and distinguished career at the Metropolitan Opera. She made her debut with the Met in 1954 and went on to perform in a wide variety of roles over the course of her career. Elias was known for her rich voice, dramatic ability, and versatility, singing roles ranging from Cherubino in Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" to the title role in Bizet's "Carmen." While she may not be directly associated with albums specifically titled "Alexander Nevsky" or "Rigoletto," it is possible that she performed pieces from these works during her career, as they are staples in the operatic repertoire. "Alexander Nevsky" is a cantata by Sergei Prokofiev, originally composed as the score for Sergei Eisenstein's film of the same name, while "Rigoletto" is an opera by Giuseppe Verdi. Elias was also known for her work on the concert stage and made numerous recordings throughout her career.
