Joesi Prokopetz

Joesi Prokopetz

Austrian cabaret artist and musician

Josef "Joesi" Prokopetz is an Austrian artist, cabaret performer, and songwriter known for his satirical and humorous work. Born on March 14, 1952, in Vienna, he has been a significant figure in the Austrian entertainment scene since the 1970s. Prokopetz is often associated with the Austropop movement and has been involved in various musical projects and collaborations throughout his career. One of his most notable works is the co-creation of the cult alpine rock opera "Der Watzmann Ruft," which was first performed in 1974 alongside Wolfgang Ambros and Manfred Tauchen. The show has enjoyed enduring popularity in German-speaking countries. Prokopetz's contributions to Austrian culture extend beyond music into television and literature, where he has also made his mark as a writer and actor. His work often reflects a keen sense of social commentary and a distinctive Viennese wit.
