Giovanni Felice Sances

Giovanni Felice Sances

17th-Century Italian Baroque Composer and Singer

Giovanni Felice Sances was an Italian Baroque composer and singer who lived from 1600 to 1679. He began his career as a chorister in Rome and later moved to Vienna, where he became a court musician. Sances is known for his significant contributions to the development of the cantata and the aria, and he was one of the most prominent vocal composers of his time. His works include secular cantatas, arias, duets, and sacred music such as masses and motets. Sances served as the imperial court's Kapellmeister in Vienna, a prestigious position that reflected his status as an esteemed composer of the era. While specific albums such as "Stabat Mater," "Dialogi Amorosi," and "Lamento" may have been attributed to him in modern recordings, these titles would not have been released as albums during his lifetime, given that the concept of an album did not exist until long after his death. Instead, these works would have been part of his larger body of compositions that were published or performed during his career.
