Camera Obscura

Camera Obscura

Scottish Indie Pop Band

Camera Obscura is an indie pop band from Glasgow, Scotland, formed in 1996 by Tracyanne Campbell, John Henderson, and Gavin Dunbar. The band's music is known for its melancholic lyrics and its blend of vintage pop influences. They gained recognition with their second album, "Underachievers Please Try Harder," released in 2003, which led to them signing with the influential indie label Merge Records. Their subsequent albums, including "Let's Get Out of This Country" in 2006 and "My Maudlin Career" in 2009, received critical acclaim and helped them to further establish their presence in the indie music scene. In 2013, they released "Desire Lines," which was produced by Tucker Martine and recorded in Portland, Oregon. The band's sound has been characterized by its sweet melodies and the distinctive voice of lead singer Tracyanne Campbell. Over the years, Camera Obscura has faced challenges, including the untimely death of keyboardist Carey Lander in 2015. Despite this loss, the band's legacy continues to influence new generations of indie pop enthusiasts.
