Bootsy Collins, born William Earl Collins on October 26, 1951, is an iconic figure in the world of funk music. He rose to prominence in the early 1970s as the bassist for James Brown's backing band, The J.B.'s, and his driving bass lines and rhythmic innovations were a key element of Brown's revolutionary sound during this period. Bootsy's career took another significant turn when he joined George Clinton's Parliament-Funkadelic collective, where his unique style helped define the funk genre. Known for his flashy stage presence and star-shaped bass, Bootsy became a solo artist in the late 1970s.
