Released in 1993 on Sepultura , Chaos A.D. was a groundbreaking album that helped define the then fledgling death metal genre. Drawing influences from thrash metal and hardcore punk, the album features an aggressive, abrasive sound with downtuned guitars, blast beats and guttural vocals. While some fans and critics initially dismissed the album as a mere retread of Sepultura's earlier work , Chaos A.D. has since been regarded as a classic of the death metal genre. The album's most popular tracks include "Refuse/Resist", "Territory" and "Slave New World".
