Emergency Ward (1972) is Nina Simone's statement on the Vietnam War. Simone's approach to the subject is less political and more spiritual, making the album a fitting reflection on the events of the time. The first side of the LP features George Harrison's 18-minute song "My Sweet Lord" and David Nelson's poem "Today is a Killer" set to music by Nina Simone. The whole performance is strongly reminiscent of gospel and stylistically similar to the Capitols' "Cool Jerk" album. The vocal arrangements show Simone at her best, recorded with the Bethany Baptist Church Junior Choir from South Jamaica, New York. The other side features Lennie Bleecher and Jeremy Winds' "Poppies" and George Harrison's "Isn't It A Pity." Tracks 1 and 4 were recorded at Fort Dix in November 1971, and tracks 2-3 at RCA studios in New York.
