This September, all Callas friends (and those who want to become them) can get to know the legacy of this super diva in a new way: all of the singer's studio recordings, made between 1949 and 1969, appear for the first time in a remastering of the original tapes in 24-bit/96kHz quality. Prima donna assoluta in unprecedented sonic clarity: these are the strengths of this album, which documents the absolute highlights of Callas' career in a very small space. The LP version includes legendary documents such as Bellini's Casta Diva from Norma - a true anthem for all Callas admirers. Also included is the aria La mamma morta from Giordano's opera Andrea Chénier, which became a cult hit in Maria Callas' moving performance. Other highlights include excerpts from Puccini's operas Gianni Schicchi, Madame Butterfly, Tosca and La Bohème. Individual pieces are also dedicated to other Italian greats Verdi, Rossini and Donizetti - as well as Christoph Willibald Gluck's Orfeo and Camille Saint-Saëns' Samson et Dalile. In addition, the album includes two arias from the famous studio recording of Bizet's Carmen that Maria Callas never sang on stage.
