Compared to the band's early albums, this one clearly has a better production that fully matched the technical possibilities. Rarely has New Order's sound sounded clearer and Bernard Sumner's vocals were better, especially his much improved vocals were and are a real plus on this album. A: "Regret" is an absolute uber-single. The quiet "Ruined In A Day", "World", "Everybody, Everywhere" and "Liar" can also be recommended without reservation, the album is simply a great pop record and much catchier than previous work, but it never lapses into indulgence thanks to the great songs. An absolutely perfect pop record. But that's always been the great strength of New Order, that they could fill an entire album and not just offer 2/3 singles and a bunch of extra filler material.
