On his forthcoming album The Ides Of March, the follow-up to his 2018 solo debut Year Of The Tiger, he once again demonstrates his exceptional abilities and proves that creative genius can come from enforced downtime. Between the classic rock, Jimmy Page-worthy solos and stripped-back blues echoes, you'll find the inherent sonic structure of The Ides Of March: Kennedy's second solo album is characterised by positivity and an appeal to the good in people. Lyrically, the 11 tracks send a clear message: themes like unity and solidarity are superior to separation and anger. A seeming utopia becomes reality, while the instrumentation adds a sonic warmth to the individual tracks. The opener "Get Along", carried by Myles Kennedy's inimitable voice and his characteristic guitar playing, is undoubtedly a modern anthem, coupled with a great message: "Why can't we all just get along?". Timeless hits such as "A Thousand Words" and the guitar-driven single "In Stride" give the new LP a character that straddles the line between rock and swing. The title track, the seven-minute "The Ides Of March," is the triumphant stop of the 51-minute album at the end of the first third, crowned by a jazzy guitar solo and poetic lyrics advocating friendship and togetherness in our darkest times. "Wake Me When It's Over" clearly veers toward blues-rock, while the catchy "Tell It Like It Is" and the haunting and debauched "Moonshot" successfully expand Kennedy's portfolio to include Americana and country. A blend of acoustic elements, mandolin and slide guitar expand the sound world of "Wanderlust Begins" and the classic rock-inspired wake-up call "Sifting Through The Fire" before the bluesy "Worried Mind" gives the listener one last piece of evidence that Myles Kennedy doesn't let genre boundaries limit him. The Ides Of March lets Myles Kennedy shine in a new guise, extending the roots rock vibes of its predecessor and exuding an aura of inner peace.
