The Value of Humanity: "Currency Of Man" Melody Gardot Melody Gardot and her producer Larry Klein decided to create a soundtrack from the lives of various characters for their new album "Currency Of Man". Gardot is thus entering new musical territory in several ways. A soundtrack about values and human dignity, Meldoy Gardot draws inspiration for her albums from the places she travels to and experiences. This time around, her songs on "Currency of Man" are not so much about personal experiences. Rather, she wants to comment in her lyrics on her observations from Los Angeles: she met many people there struggling to exist on the margins of society. This album has great significance for Gardot because it is her call to defend human dignity: the legitimacy and value of the individual. Together with Larry Klein, she conceived the work as a coherent narrative and musical line. In order to publish this overall concept in its entirety, "Artist's Cut" will be released as a deluxe edition. The new Melody Gardot sound When it comes to equipment, Melody Gardot and Larry Klein were advised by French engineer Maxime Le Guil. Analog equipment, old microphones, tube amps and real tapes provide soft crackles and warm sounds on the new CD. In addition, for the track "Currency of Man," Melody Gardot had her piano, and subsequently all the instruments in the production, re-tuned from a 440 heartbeat tuning to a 432 heartbeat tuning. Deviations from the standard 440-heart tuning usually only occur in so-called historical classical music performance practice. Melody believes that the altered, lower tuning creates different resonances in musicians and listeners. She finds this sound more relaxing on the one hand and more refreshing on the other. The "currency of the human being" is the respect we have for each other. This important theme should resonate and reverberate. The effect of technique and mood supports this statement. The instrumentation of Melody Gardot's "Currency of Man" on her new album is more often on electric guitar than piano. The band's electric guitars are complemented by esoteric orchestral sounds, horns, and throbbing bass. Stylistically, "Currency of Man" straddles the line between jazz, blues and R'n'B. Gardot herself describes this sound as unusual. Since the music is conceived as a fictional film score, Gardot and Larry Klein add in everyday sounds from the world of the main characters. The song "Preacherman," which deals with the fate of Emmit Till, also features a choir made up of Melody Gardot's Facebook fans. Unlike the retro recording technique of the rest of the album, more than 100 soundtracks were compiled for this choir, provided by fans. Familiar and new Longtime Melody Gardot fans will find familiar things on "Currency of Man." For example, "No Man's Prize" combines her warm, unique voice and songwriting to create a song that stylistically taps into the sound of the American songbook. In "If Ever I Recall Your Face," she builds on the beautiful ballads of her previous albums. "Don't Misunderstand", "Same To You" and "It Gonna Come" in particular offer the deepest blues and tight grooves in a new sound. Cheerful tracks on the album include "Morning Sun" and "Once I Was Loved". Melody Gardot's masterpiece "Currency of Man" presents an accessible album with deep themes. She ingeniously sets the deliberately simple lyrics to music and composes them into an imaginary musical film. Melody Gardot has found a way to address the humanity of her listeners through music.
