The album was recorded during the band's residency at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada in November 2014. It is the band's first live album in 11 years and the first to feature drummer Eric Singer since he rejoined the band in 1996. The album was positively received by music critics. Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic awarded the album four stars out of five, calling it a "revitalizing live album" and praising the band's performance. He also noted that the album "reminds us that Kiss is still a strong live act that can perform at its best when it matters". Kiss Rocks Vegas debuted at No. 26 on the Billboard 200 chart and sold 13,000 units in its first week. It also reached number one on the Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart.
