The album was recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York City. The first single from the album, "New York Groove", became a hit in the United States and reached number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. The second single from the album, "Radioactive", reached number 64 on the Billboard Hot 100. Kiss : Ace Frehley was well received by music critics. Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic awarded the album four stars out of five, calling it "a fun, pedal-to-the-metal, unpretentious hard rock album". Kiss : Ace Frehley was commercially successful, reaching number 26 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album received a gold certificate from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for selling more than 500,000 copies.
