Original Gangster" is Ice-T's fourth album and probably his best. With this release he continues his streak of hip hop classics that he started with "Power". Ice reached the pinnacle of his art here, as the lyrics and beat selection were better than ever in the ears of many critics and fans alike. As one of the first gangster rappers, Ice-T was a West Coast pioneer, especially in the 80s. During this peak period, he was able to express himself in street slang on topics such as violence, social structures, and ghetto life like no one else. A refined flow of beats characterizes this important work in particular. The album reached number 15 on the US Billboard 200 and was included in many lists of the best rap and hip hop albums, as well as in the book "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die".
