The soundtrack to one of the most successful series Chernobyl, by Icelandic experimental musician Hildur Gu?nadóttir, is released. "Together with Chris Watson and Sam Slater, we travelled to Lithuania to record the sounds of the local Ignalina nuclear power plant, where much of the series was filmed. We then dug through hours of recorded material and managed to capture the unique melodies of the doors, pumps or reactor and turbine halls. Aside from my voice, the music for the series is thus created by the power plant itself," Hildur explains the creation process. The soundtrack, which has received an Emmy nomination, is being released on CD and LP.The series is a five-part miniseries about the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident on the night of 25-26 April 1986 near the Ukrainian town of Pripyat. Almost 2 million viewers watched the first episode and the cumulative viewership exceeded 1.7 million. On the Internet Movie Database (IMDB), the series received a higher rating than Game of Thrones or Gingerbread Dad, and on CSFD, Chernobyl became the second highest rated series.Hildur Gu?nadóttir, who is a composer, singer and cello player, has previously worked on the soundtracks for the films Joker, Mary Magdalene and Sicario 2. She has released four critically acclaimed solo albums (Mount A, Without Sinkins, Leyf?u Ljósinu and Saman), collaborated with the late Jóhann Jóhannsson and Fever Ray, among others, and received several Icelandic Music Award nominations.
