Originally released on September 1, 1985, it features Gus Ferguson (cello), Martin McCarrick (cello), James Pinker (timpani), Tony Ayres (timpani), Richard Avison (trombone), Simon Hogg (trombone), Carolyn Costin (violin) and Andrew Hutton (soprano vocals) on the song "De Profundis (Out of the Depths of Sorrow)". "Spleen & Ideal" marks the band's transition from post-punk and gothic rock to darkwave with neoclassical influences. Throughout their career, Dead Can Dance increasingly combined their music with various ethnic musical styles and elements of neoclassical and medieval music. "Spleen & Ideal" is the title of Dead Can Dance's second album. Now this classic is finally available again on vinyl.
