Keeper of the Seven Keys - Part I is the debut album by German power metal band Helloween , released in 1987. The album was a critical and commercial success and is considered a classic of the power metal genre. It was the first album to feature guitarist Michael Weikath and drummer Ingo Schwichtenberg, who later became permanent members of the band. The album also featured the first appearance of vocalist Michael Kiske, who remained with the band until 1993.The album's lyrics are based on the story of a young man who is sent to the underworld to rescue the seven keys that keep the gates of hell closed. The album's title track is a seven-minute epic that tells the story of a young man's journey to the underworld. Other highlights include the power metal anthem "I Want Out," the ballad "Forever and One (Neverland)" and the thrash metal track "Dr. Stein." Keeper of the Seven Keys - Part I was a major influence on the power metal genre and is considered one of the classic albums of the genre. Bands such as Metallica, Iron Maiden and DragonForce cite it as an influence.
