Of course, like all the other bands, EPICA couldn't take their latest episode of cinematic splendor to the far corners of the world as planned. Instead, plans were made, visions became reality, and a unique event was created that couldn't be farther away from a regular streaming experience. On Saturday, June 12, 2021, EPICA unveiled the ultimate monument to their music, their career, and their role as the benchmark of an entire genre. What is now finally being released as "Ωmega Alive" on DVD and Blu-ray is the EPICA show of your wildest dreams, brought to life through blood, sweat, tears and just the right amount of megalomania. An experience that straddles Marvel, Cirque de Soleil and Tim Burton's uncanny realms. Audiences from more than 100 countries wanted to be there when EPICA finally celebrated the release of their new opus "Ωmega" - a show that will go down as a defining moment in EPICA's long concert history. This is easily EPICA's most explosive and bombastic performance to date, brought to life by a gigantic production on a huge stage that is constantly changing and full of surprises. For the first time ever, EPICA played new songs like "The Skeleton Key" and the insanely monumental "Kingdom of Heaven Part 3" alongside their most popular songs, rarities, fan favorites and big surprises. "What started as a simple online showcase for Ωmega quickly spiraled out of control and within moments became our most elaborate project to date," says creative director and keyboard wizard Coen Janssen. "As always, we wanted to push ourselves beyond our limits and try completely new approaches. Suddenly we were back in the place where we feel most comfortable. This concert film was our ray of light in the dark times we all live in." For six months, the band worked tirelessly to create a concert event that would set a new standard for live recordings and streaming events. "We wanted to put on the perfect EPICA show where we could fulfill all the dreams we had and for once not have to think about taking it all on tour." Instead of just filming in an empty venue, the band came up with a no-nonsense, novel concept called "Living Backdrop," which Coen explains as follows, "We just built another stage behind our stage where there's always something going on. And that," he laughs, "we took literally. It gives each song something unique, a special look or effect that's tailored to its content." He can say it really loud: elaborate visual effects, exclusively produced videos and graphic effects, Nibelungen-level fire and flames, dancers and actors, performers and fire-eaters, all contribute to the symbolic aura and cinematic splendor. The stage couldn't have been better set for the band: Simone Simons, Mark Jansen and all the rest, the fun of playing live is again quite evident. "It was a great feeling to finally play with the band again, to finally stand on stage again. We really missed that," Coen emphasizes. Plus, we all really liked our new set with the fire snakes and all the rotating elements. We'll definitely take some of that with us when we finally go on tour again." In the meantime, "Ωmega Alive" will be more than an effective cure for the ever-spreading inflammation of not performing - for band, crew and fans alike. Divided into five acts, like the five letters in the words EPICA and "Ωmega," the band has given each part of the show a different theme, look and aura. A real fan's treat: there are little references and Easter Eggs everywhere to the band's history and elaborate music videos the band has already made. But it can also be said simply: this is EPICA's best concert ever, a two-hour spectacle that spans an entire career and is crowned by Simone Simon's breathtaking a cappella version of the poignant "Rivers," arguably the most emotional and poignant moment of her life. You won't hear anything like it on tour.
