The album was recorded between 2014 and 2016 and was produced by Spears, Justin Tranter, Mattman & Robin, Burns and William Orbit. Spears collaborated with a number of writers and producers on the album, including Tranter, Orbit, Burns and Nick Monson. Musically, Glory is a pop album that contains elements of dance-pop, synthpop and electropop. The album's lyrical content relates to Spears' personal life and experiences. Upon its release, Glory was met with mixed reviews from music critics. Some praised its production and Spears' vocal performance, while others criticized its lyrical content and considered the album generic. The album debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200 chart with sales of 107,000 units in its first week, 85,000 of which were net album sales. It also debuted at number one in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom. As of November 2017, the album has sold over 307,000 copies in the United States.
