The album received mixed reviews from music critics, who praised its production and Spears' vocal performance, but criticized its lyrical content. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 505,000 copies in its first week. It became Spears' third album in a row to debut at number one, and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for shipping one million copies. Two singles were released from the album, "Womanizer" and "Circus". "Womanizer" reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, while "Circus" reached number three.
