Po vydání vlastního debutu a oblíbeného EP What a Pleasure začal autor písní a skladatel Dustin Payseur nahrávat disonantní a introspektivní demosnímky reflektující jeho jižanskou výchovu a mladou dospělost v New Yorku.

Ve skladbách, které nakonec vytvořily album Clash the Truth, se Payseur vydal novým směrem a použil drsné instrumentálky, existenciální texty a sociálně uvědomělá témata.

Temnější témata z Clash the Truth stále vystupují živě díky jasným kytarovým tónům, lokomotivnímu bubnování a Payseurovým vynalézavým technikám domácího nahrávání.

Odkazujíce na zvuky nahrávek Factory Records, newyorské no wave scény a avant-popu 90. let, Beach Fossils rozšířili svůj zvuk za hranice ložnicového dream popu.
