Arctic Monkeys' second album Favourite Worst Nightmare was released in 2007 to critical acclaim. Produced by James Ford, the album saw the band move away from their garage rock sound and into a more polished and alternative rock direction. The album's lead single, "Brainstorm", was released in February 2007 and the album's title track followed in April. The album's third and final single, "Teddy Bears", was released in September. The album was a commercial success, debuting at number one in the UK and selling over 250,000 copies in its first week. It was also nominated for the Mercury Prize, but lost out to Klaxons' Myths of the Near Future. Favourite Worst Nightmare was praised by critics for its songwriting and musicianship, and many called it the band's best album. NME ranked it second on its list of the 50 best albums of 2007, while Rolling Stone placed it 48th on its list of the 100 best albums of 2000.
