Anyone who has ever found themselves in a mosh pit at one of Amyl And The Sniffers' sweaty, red-hot gigs has an idea of how much energy the Australian band has built up around dervish Amy Taylor in a year without gigs in Corona. That concentrated load of rock'n'roll is now being released on their new album "Comfort to Me". At the end of 2020, Amyl And The Sniffers went into the studio with producer Dan Luscombe to record the album at home, which had previously been more than a year in the making. Influences range from old-school rock'n'roll (AC/DC, Rose Tattoo, Motörhead and Wendy O Williams) to modern hardcore (Warthog and Power Trip) and local heroes (Coloured Balls and Cosmic Psychos). When writing lyrics, however, frontwoman Taylor drew inspiration from her rap idols and countless garage bands. Of the 17 songs recorded, 13 eventually made it onto the album, which was mixed by Nick Launay (Nick Cave, IDLES, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and mastered by Bernie Grundman (Michael Jackson, Prince, Dr. Der). Amy Taylor says of the album, "If we were to explain what this record is like, it's like watching an episode of Nanny to Watch, but the story takes place in an Australian car dealership and the nanny is dealing with social issues, reading some books and Mr Sheffield is drinking beer in the sun. It's a Mitsubishi Lancer that's slightly over the speed limit in a school zone. It's finding out how good it is to wear tracksuits to bed. It's having someone cook you dinner when you're really wrecked. It's me sweating on stage instead of sitting quietly in the corner."
