Celebrating 25 years in 2012, Naxos has evolved from its beginnings as a budget label to a leading classical music force. History Started in 1987, Naxos was the brainchild of Klaus Heymann, a German-born entrepreneur and music lover based in Hong Kong, and has become the world’s leading classical music label in terms of number of new releases and breadth of catalog. Heymann’s strategy of recording exciting new repertoire with exceptional talent has been recognized with 18 GRAMMY® awards, over 150 Gramophone Editor’s Choice Awards and numerous other honors. To boost the sales for his electronics equipment company, Heymann began organizing concerts of classical music in Hong Kong sponsored by Bose and Revox. When visiting artists involved in the concerts discovered that their records could not be found in Hong Kong shops, record distribution became an additional enterprise of Heymann’s company. The Naxos of America office was opened in New Jersey in 1991 and in 1998 was moved down to Franklin, TN where our main headquarters are now located, with a second office located in New York City.
