The Ethiopians

The Ethiopians

Jamaican reggae group

The Ethiopians were a pioneering Jamaican ska and reggae vocal group, founded in 1966 by Leonard Dillon, Stephen Taylor, and Aston Morris. The group became one of the most popular and influential reggae groups of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Their music often contained strong Rastafarian and political elements, reflecting the social climate of Jamaica at the time. After Morris left the group, Dillon and Taylor continued as a duo before Taylor's untimely death in 1975. Leonard Dillon, known as "The Ethiopian," continued to record and perform under that name until his own death in 2011. The Ethiopians are best known for hits such as "Train to Skaville," which helped introduce Jamaican music to international audiences, and "Everything Crash," which captured the struggles of the era. Their work has been influential in shaping the sound of ska and reggae music, with their albums "Engine 54," "Reggae Power," and "Woman Capture Man" being notable contributions to the genre.
