Strigoi is a British extreme metal band formed by Greg Mackintosh after the hiatus of his previous band, Vallenfyre. The name "Strigoi" is derived from Romanian folklore, where Strigoi are said to be troubled spirits that have risen from the grave. Greg Mackintosh, known for his work as the lead guitarist and songwriter for the gothic metal band Paradise Lost, started Strigoi to explore a more raw and aggressive sound that blends elements of death metal, doom, and crust punk. The band released its debut album "Abandon All Faith" in 2019 through Nuclear Blast Records. This project allowed Mackintosh to delve into themes of existential despair and social commentary, continuing his legacy in the metal genre with a fresh yet darkly intense musical venture.
