Red House Painters

Red House Painters

Cult Indie Folk Rock Band

Red House Painters was an American slowcore band formed in San Francisco, California, in 1988 by singer-songwriter Mark Kozelek. The band is known for their haunting, melancholic sound and introspective lyrics. They were part of the early '90s slowcore movement alongside bands like Low and Codeine. Red House Painters gained critical acclaim with their debut album "Down Colorful Hill" in 1992, which was released on the influential British label 4AD. This was followed by a series of albums including "Red House Painters" (often referred to as "Rollercoaster" due to its cover art) in 1993, "Ocean Beach" in 1995, and "Songs for a Blue Guitar" in 1996. After a considerable delay caused by record label issues, their final album "Old Ramon" was released in 2001. The band's evocative sound and Kozelek's confessional songwriting have earned them a devoted following, though they never achieved widespread commercial success. After the dissolution of Red House Painters, Mark Kozelek went on to form the project Sun Kil Moon, where he continues to release music and maintain an active career as a musician.
