Innovative American Composer and Vocal Artist

Meredith Monk is an American composer, performer, director, vocalist, filmmaker, and choreographer who has been active since the 1960s. She is a pioneer in what is known as "extended vocal technique" and "interdisciplinary performance." Monk's work often combines elements of music, theatre, and dance, creating a unique multimedia experience. She founded The House, a company dedicated to an interdisciplinary approach to performance, in 1968 and later the Meredith Monk & Vocal Ensemble in 1978 to expand her musical textures and forms.
