Liesa Van Der Aa

Belgian Experimental Violinist and Composer

Liesa Van der Aa is a Belgian tv & stage actress and singer-songwriter, who has also composed soundtracks. She was born in 1986 as the daughter of actor Frans Van Der Aa. After graduating as "master kleinkunst" at the Herman Teirlinck Instituut in Antwerp in 2008, she worked as an actress and composer with Guy Cassiers, Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop Berlin, Ictus (BXL) and BOX. In 2012 she debuted with her solo album Troops and in 2014 she started recording her second album Weighing Of The Heart, released as WOTH in 2015. In 2017 she started the musical laboratory One Trick Pony to explore the boundaries between musical & visual content. After performances such as Loo Tunes, Autobahn Utopia and Music For Birthdays the first part of her "tryptich about power" PLAY premiered in 2019, featuring a tennis game for string quartet. It won the Klara award for most inventive performance. In February 2020 the Easy Alice record annex film project was released. Van der Aa has also worked as soundtrack composer for movie directors such as Gilles Coulier or Michalis Konstantatos. Her soundtrack for the film Cargo was awarded with an Ensor.
