Jowe Head is an English musician and artist, best known for his work with the post-punk bands Swell Maps and Television Personalities. Born Stephen Bird, he adopted the stage name Jowe Head and became a prominent figure in the UK's independent music scene during the late 1970s and 1980s. Swell Maps, co-founded by Jowe Head and his school friend Nikki Sudden, released several influential recordings that blended punk rock with experimental sounds. After Swell Maps disbanded, Jowe Head joined Television Personalities, contributing to their quirky and eclectic style. Alongside his band activities, Jowe Head embarked on a solo career, producing albums that showcase his unique blend of art-rock, experimental music, and DIY ethos. His solo works often feature a mix of surreal storytelling and avant-garde compositions.
