ESG is an American band that emerged from the South Bronx in the early 1980s. The acronym stands for Emerald, Sapphire, and Gold. The group was formed by the Scroggins sisters: Deborah, Marie, Valerie, and Renee. They are known for their unique and minimalist sound that blends funk, post-punk, hip-hop, and disco, creating a style that has been influential across multiple genres. ESG's music is characterized by its sparse instrumentation, often centered around bass, congas, and drum patterns, which has made their tracks widely popular for sampling by hip-hop artists.
