Emahoy Tsege Mariam Gebru is an Ethiopian nun and classical pianist known for her soulful and unique compositions that blend Western classical music with Ethiopian melodies. Born on December 12, 1923, in Addis Ababa, she was originally named Yewubdar Gebru. Emahoy Tsege Mariam began her musical studies in Switzerland before World War II and later continued her education in Cairo. Her life took a spiritual turn when she decided to become a nun in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, which significantly influenced her music.
