Death Cab for Cutie is an American alternative rock band formed in Bellingham, Washington in 1997. The band was originally a solo project of Ben Gibbard, who expanded the project into a full band with the addition of Chris Walla (guitar, keyboards, production), Nick Harmer (bass), and Nathan Good (drums). Over time, the lineup has changed, with Jason McGerr replacing Good on drums. Death Cab for Cutie's music is characterized by its melodic indie rock and emotionally evocative lyrics. They gained a devoted following with their early albums and broke into mainstream success with their fourth album, "Transatlanticism," released in 2003.
