Arcturus is a Norwegian avant-garde metal band known for its unique blend of black metal, classical music, and electronic elements. The band was formed in 1991 and originally started as a black metal project under the name Mortem. However, they changed their name to Arcturus (after the brightest star in the constellation Boötes) to reflect their evolving sound and musical aspirations. The band's lineup has included notable musicians from the Norwegian metal scene, such as Hellhammer (Jan Axel Blomberg) on drums, known for his work with Mayhem, and Garm (Kristoffer Rygg), the frontman of Ulver, on vocals.
