Willie Nelson: ... And Then I Wrote versie op vinyl 2LP in 45 RPM editie. Deze specifieke uitgave werd uitgebracht in VS en Canada bij uitgeverij Analogue Productions in samenwerking met Liberty op 28. januari 2022.
Willie Nelson (g, vocals); Billy Strange, Johnny Western, Roy Nichols (g); Earl Palmer (dr); "Hello Walls", "Crazy", "Funny How Time Slips Away", among others. These are some of the most memorable hits in the Willie Nelson songwriting canon. Willie Nelson, one of the most important artists in American music history, a great like Elvis or Ella, had these and other hits with his debut album "... And Then I Wrote". In 1961, after years of languishing in various places, Willie Nelson finally arrived in Nashville and became successful because of his gift for putting heartbreak and memories into song lyrics. Nelson's songs became big hits for Patsy Cline, Faron Young and Billy Walker. The royalty checks kept coming - fat checks. But Willie wanted more. These songs were his essence, and he wanted country music fans to know they came from his soul. In the fall of 1962, he released his first full-length album on Liberty Records. It was perhaps the most perfect debut album in history. How best to honor such a historic country classic with a reissue from Analogue Productions? For starters, there's no question that this classic deserved a wider groove spacing, better pickup sampling, and a noticeable reduction in the distortion and high frequency loss that is typical of a four-sided AP reissue at 45 rpm. So four gorgeous pages of 180gram vinyl, pressed by our own Quality Record Pressings, that's what it should be. And the mastering? Again, top-notch. Our sound engineer, Matthew Lutthans of The Mastering Lab by Acoustic Sounds, took care of the fantastic sound, working with the original master tape. The Mastering Lab by Acoustic Sounds maintains the standard of quality set by the late Grammy Award-winning mastering engineer Doug Sax, who made the studio famous. It wasn't just the songs on the album that rose into the country canon, including the three aforementioned hits, but also deep tracks like "Mr. Record Man," "Undo The Right" and "Wake Me When It's Over." " ... And Then I Wrote" is not only one of the best debuts of all time - it's one of the best songwriting albums ever recorded. The typical glitz of the Nashville sound is mercifully relegated to the background on this record. The recordings were produced by Liberty's head of country Joe Allison, partly at the famous Quonset Hut studio on Music Row, partly in Hollywood. Allison appreciated Willie's distinctive vocal style and let his singing take center stage, leaving the chorus in the background and dispensing with strings entirely. The album yielded one top ten single ("Touch Me"), but none of the other three singles made the charts. If it were first released today, it would be considered Willie's Greatest Hits. Patsy Cline introduced her definitive version of "Crazy" in 1961, and it has been recorded by dozens of artists since then; it's the song that transformed Will Nelson from a verse-songwriter into a songwriter worthy of inclusion in the Great American Songbook. Analogue Productions' reissue of "... And Then I Wrote" will find a place of honor among the most treasured LPs in your music collection.
