On their current CD "Lebensgebete" (Prayers for Life), the Thios Omilos ensemble deals with prayers in the midst of life and has put together a programme of four- to five-part settings from the Romantic and Modern periods. "To pray is to throw a sack at God's feet." Martin Luther used this phrase to illustrate what happens when people pray: they formulate fears, needs, and desires, structuring their days and years, and have done so for millennia. For almost as long, prayers have inspired music. Throughout the ages, composers have set prayers to music: the current CD features works by Gioachino Rossini, Peter Cornelius, Max Reger and Francis Poulenc, among others.
