It has something of folk, something of sacred music, something of the "blues": it is a unique music in the world, born of many factors and antagonistic elements, just like the country of its origin. And like other traditions, it is not just music, it is a way of life. This compilation also brings us echoes of that way of life and the smells of places that today seem distant galaxies. Connoisseurs will salivate at the mouth for names like La Niña de los Peines, Manuel Torre, Aurelio, Carmen Amaya, El Niño Ricardo, Melchor de Marchena and more. As if that weren't enough, underground lords like Sarita Heredia and Pericón de Cádiz coexist alongside these great historical names. Bearing in mind that they can never all be on one single disc; the choice of voices is exquisite: from the acute Manuel Vallejo to the blows of Angelillo or Manolo Caracol and everything in between... Flamenco guitar fans, what's not to be found here? Melchor de Marchena, Niño Ricardo, Sabicas, Borrull, Manolo de Badajoz, Perico el del Lunar.... First swords! And those who approach flamenco for the first time must be carried away by the brutally honest feeling of hearing Sabicas' guitar and Carmen Amaya's taconea for the first time.
