The complete soundtrack to the 1986 film "True Stories" is released for the first time! To celebrate the DVD and Bluray release of David Byrne's 1986 film "True Stories," Nonesuch and Todomundo Records are releasing a comprehensive soundtrack that for the first time features all 23 songs from the film collected on one audio disc in chronological order of the titles' appearance in the film: True Stories, David Byrne's Film: The Complete Soundtrack. Many of the songs appear for the first time on CD and in digital formats, including, for example, a previously unreleased version of "Dream Operator" by Talking Heads. The film has been described as "a bold attempt to portray a bizarre American landscape". In doing so, David Byrne took inspiration from the tabloid press to portray the extraordinariness of ordinary American life in Virgil, Texas. Texas, meanwhile, becomes a hyper-realistic late capitalist landscape of endless vistas, shopping malls and prefabricated metal buildings. In True Stories, Byrne uses his songs to weave together pop iconography, voodoo rituals and a unique variety show. "This film does what some painters try to do: transform ordinary images into strange new forms."
