In 2017, the exhibition "Soul Of A Nation: Art In The Age Of Black Power" was on display at the Tate in London. It is currently hanging in New York's Brooklyn Museum and will be exhibited in Los Angeles in 2019. The musical accompaniment is soul jazz. "Jazz Is The Teacher, Funk Is The Preacher" is the second part of "Soul Of A Nation" after 2017's "Afro-Centric Visions In The Age Of Black Power". While the first volume was dedicated to underground jazz, street funk and proto-rap from 1968-79, the second release is dedicated to "conscious black music" from 1969-75. It comes from groundbreaking, popular artists central to African-American identity, such as The Art Ensemble of Chicago ("Theme De Yoyo"), Don Cherry ("Brown Rice"), Funkadelic ("Nappy Dugou"), Gil Scott-Heron ("Whitey On The Moon"), and Oneness Of Juju ("Space Jungle Funk"). In addition to these, the compilation also features performers who are less well known to the public, but who nevertheless also made significant contributions to the socio-political and spiritual development of their "community" and also turned the rudder of musical history in a very creative way. For example, James Mason, The Pharaohs, Sarah Webster and Baby Huey.
