- The Big Howdy record label has never been properly anthologized. From 1959 to the mid-1970s, it released a wide selection of rock 'n' roll, rockabilly, hillbilly and honky tonk country - originally based in Bogalusa, Louisiana, it later moved across the river to Mississippi. It specialised in releasing local artists and released more than 50 titles, a big number for such a small company - Artists include former Sun artist Luke McDaniel, who records here as his alter ego Jeff Daniels, the great honky-tonker Jimmy Swan, rockabilly heroes Vern Pullens and Dayward Penny and the sublime voice of Wayne Morse - 25 of the 33 tracks have never been released in the UK and four are completely unreleased. The 20-page booklet contains rare photographs and a complete discography.
