The programme includes opera with Angela Gheorghiu, Rolando Villazón, Jonas Kaufmann, Joyce DiDonato, Magdalena Kozena, Philippe Jaroussky and Maria Callas, who is still considered a superstar decades after her death. Trumpeter Alison Balsom, flutist Emmanuel Pahud, pianists Yundi and Alexandre Tharaud, violinist Vilde Frang and cellist Mario Brunello are a diverse group of concert soloists. Martha Argerich and Renaud Capuçon and one of today's finest string quartets, the Artemis Quartet, present cutting-edge chamber music. A number of masters are represented, from the current stars on the podium to the greats whose historic recordings are still very successful: alongside Simon Rattle and "his" Berlin Philharmonic, Vasily Petrenko and Otto Klemperer are thus represented. The composer Karl Jenkins, who has made it big in the charts, is behind the successful new classics, the Englishman John Wilson behind the fantastic rediscovery of the great Hollywood film musicals.
