It was back in 2006 when a group of accomplished musicians and rock stars began meeting once a year in London to enjoy an evening of live music. The main aim was to raise money for the charity The Sunflower Jam. At first, rumours of these sessions with Deep Purple, Robert Plant, Brian May and Alice Cooper were too good to be true, to the point where some thought it was just an urban legend. "The Jam", as they soon came to be called, quickly became a cult night. A real treat, especially for the artists themselves, who were finally free and happy to abandon their commercial ideas and enjoy making music together with colleagues, friends and maybe even secret rivals, and for the audience, who often simply couldn't believe their eyes. Sunflower Jam was the brainchild of Jacky Paice, who could very often rely on her husband Ian's drumming. Who would refuse to play with him? The first years were mainly for guests and music professionals who donated to charity. Later, "The Jam" became too good not to be open to the public. At one of the earlier SFJs, Jon Lord played one last time with his Deep Purple friends and sang in a leisurely "Hammond War" with Don Airey, who replaced Lord in Deep Purple when he decided he'd had enough of a life spent on the road, and after a life devoted to rock 'n' roll, Lord left the band to pursue his first love: classical music and the combination of rock elements in it. 2014: 'The Sunflower Jam' is now regularly sold out. Fourth concert at the Royal Albert Hall. An evening of great music, but also an explosion of joy and zest for life. Jon Lord sadly passed away in 2012. Just a few weeks before the release of the just completed reissue of the album that is widely known as the first meeting of classical music and rock. Concerto for band and orchestra. Purple performed the same piece live at the Royal Albert Hall in 1969. Given the respect, friendship and love expressed by all who have worked, played or simply met Jon Lord, it is no surprise that Jam 2014 will be entirely dedicated to his music. This evening has become a historic moment in rock music: a full orchestra, a director - Paul Mann - who was crazy enough to put wonderful arrangements to a repertoire that spans fifty years of music, and many old friends for an unforgettable evening. The Albert Hall was sold out to the last seat. Jon's great musical loves were in the hall again: the same place, many years later, many of the same people, a million times more emotion. Jon's music shone for four hours. Excitement, jokes, laughter and lots of music came together like magic. The result is a show you can now hear and see. All the great musicians who played at the Sunflower Jam "Celebrating Jon Lord" left a valuable impression, but how could we not mention the 45-minute finale of Deep Purple, a Purple Mk III song that Paice played with old friend Glenn Hughes, along with Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson, Yes' Rick Wakeman, Steve Balsam (who sang in the late Jon Lord Band and on his last studio album "Concerto"), members of The Temperance Movement, former members of Whitesnake, Marsden and Moody, "Modfather" Paul Weller. .. Ian Paice still vividly remembers the "Celebrating Jon Lord" evening, given the amount of time all the artists had to rehearse the music for the show (in Deep Purple's case, two hours the day before the show!), and the resulting performance was nothing short of a miracle. It speaks to the quality of the players and the love for Jon and his work.
