The Sound of Independence: a historical lightning trip through the Caribbean in the 1950s/1960s. Collectors of Soul Jazz gems have once again delved into the archives. This time the destination was the Caribbean islands between Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. There they found 32 tracks of mambo, calypso, goombay, mento, merengue, cult and compas, which - as is fortunately their charming habit - they don't want to keep from us. They present their result under the title "90 degrees of shadow. Hot island sounds from the Caribbean". The album is released in a deluxe 2CD box with an oversized and informative booklet and as a limited double LP with gatefold sleeve, 180g vinyl and download code. Hot drinks from the 50s and 60s are on offer. A time when many Caribbean countries gained independence and when new musical styles were constantly being created. The release is also accompanied by a large-format illustrated book "90 Degrees of Shadow: 100 Years of Photography in the Caribbean (with a foreword by Paul Gilroy)".
