6 Concertos from the famous Dresden collection In the first two-thirds of the 18th century it was a particular good fortune that a substantial part of the repertoire of instrumental music in use has survived to the present day in the form of some 1,800 musical manuscripts. The collections of the so-called 'Schranzko II' are today found in the rich music collection of the Saxon State Library - State and University Library in Dresden (SLUB); this treasure trove contains many nameless specimens which - conceived in the creative fervour - do not reveal their author. The material was arranged as early as the 18th century, but with an inconsistency that seems strange to us today: the famous lie here alongside the nameless, but there is hardly anything truly weak among them. One is surprised at the infinite treasure of the Dresden Pretiosen, even from anonymous pens; meanwhile, many works have been identified and attributed to various composers thanks to online publications, but some remain unnamed, such as the seven concertos for flute (violin), cello and continuo that were found there and can now be heard on CD. Because good music must have a known composer and should not necessarily remain anonymous, some inventive scholars and musicians quickly and immediately attributed the concertos to Telemann because of their quality. Telemann's authorship, however, is not documented. Internet publication of these works has led to the identification of many of them and their attribution to various composers, but the authorship of some of the works found in this collection - including the seven concertos for flute, violin, cello and continuo heard on this CD - remains a mystery.
