Greatest hits now on vinyl Thin Lizzy are among the icons of British rock. They've influenced countless other bands over the years, but arguably no other band has ever sounded like them. In 1969, school friends Phil Lynott and Brian Downey, along with Eric Bell and Eric Wrixon, formed a hard rock band in Dublin. After their first few gigs, Thin Lizzy, whose sound was initially somewhat eclectic, with influences from Irish folk, blues, R'n'B, pop, rock and hard rock, were signed to Decca just a year later. The musicians moved to London and from then on their great career began. They first came to attention with a version of the Irish folk song "Whiskey In The Jar", which they recorded rather haphazardly in 1972. The song went to number one in the Irish charts, number six in the UK and number seven in Germany. Twelve studio albums and several more hit singles followed until their break-up in 1983. And it is to these that Thin Lizzy's Greatest Hits album is dedicated. The compilation was originally released on double CD in 2004 and is now also available on vinyl. Unlike the CD version, however, the double album features 22 songs instead of 36, which were compiled together with Thin Lizzy expert Nick Sharp. Still, all the essential songs the rock legends recorded between 1972 and 1983 are included. These include "The Boys Are Back in Town", "Whisky In The Jar", "Waiting For An Alibi", "Dancing In The Moonlight", "Jailbreak", "Don't Believe A Word" and many more. The full track list from "Greatest Hits" including audio samples can be found below. Thin Lizzy's "Greatest Hits" album went platinum in the UK and triple platinum in Ireland.
